New York’s plastic surgeons using social media to get face time
New York’s cosmetic surgery industry is using social media to grab business in a highly competitive field driven by patients searching for services online.
Surgeons at DeLucca Plastic Surgery and Plastic Surgery Group, both in Albany have not only significantly grown Facebook followers to more than 2,000 in six months, but also blog and engage in online discussions with patients and forums, according to a Business Review article.
Doctors say social media allows them to flex their muscles against local and national competitors. It provides an outlet that allows for constant marketing through Facebook and with other industry-specific sites.
The medical primary care industry is more cautious about the move noting the need to balance marketing opportunities with confidentiality and regulatory rules, the article notes.
The Journal of Medical Internet Research study found that 14 percent of physicians post daily on social media sites and 46 percent do it once a week.
